Sue (a.k.a. MOM)

I'm Sue, mom to Geoffrey and Garrett, and spouse to Paul (a.k.a. PB).

I'm interested in the web, computers, golf, needlework, scrapbooking and reading ('tho not necessarily in that order!). I like taking classes in web design, and figure I'll probably be a life-long student. I take whatever classes I can find for free on the web (I like www.vu.org and www.hplearningcenter.com), and have a web design certificate from Baker College. Web design may become a part time profession when I retire from my 8-5 job at Kettering University. I'm an applications system analyst there, and webmaster of the Business Office Web - it's at www.kettering.edu/businessOffice. I also provide technical support to the Business Office, Controller, Vice President for Administration and Finance, and a couple board committees. I've always enjoyed tweaking computers, and regularly provide tips on software packages or operating systems used on the job.

I golf on the Kettering Golf League (I started maintaining a web site and sharing league secretary duties for the league recently) and lately have been averaging in the upper 50's... my average's been going up rather than down (what's up with that, eh?!). We golf at Grand Blanc Golf Club weekly from May 'til September. The course has 36 holes, so it's nice that you don't have to golf the same 9 each week. My dad and older brother seemed to always be golfing when I was a kid, so it seemed a natural sport to try out in college to satisfy the gym requirement. And, 'tho I'm not all that great at it, I still enjoy trying. I always enjoyed walking, and golf courses are the prettiest places to do it, so it works for me ('tho don't ask me why I drive a cart so often... I'm a danger behind the wheel! Just ask my partner!).

And what can I say about needlework? When I'm not on the golf course, or even when I am, that's where you'll find me most Wednesday evenings. Ever heard of the old saying, "The one who dies with the most unfinished projects wins!"? I belong to a couple local needlework chapters; Creative Stitchers, a chapter of The Embroiderers' Guild of America, Inc.; and Needlework Guild of Michigan, a chapter of American Needlepoint Guild. I do the web sites for both - www.creativestitchers.org (I know, original, eh?!) and www.ngmang.org. I'm also secretary for both chapters this year, and annual display coordinator for the Creative Stitchers the past few years. In March 2002 I joined the American Needlepoint Guild's Internet Committee as Assistant Webmaster and now contribute to ANG's site at www.needlepoint.org.

Seems the needlework, scrapbooking (ever heard of Creative Memories?) and reading all go in spurts. Sometimes I only read the paper once a week (that's why I get Dilbert delivered to me via e-mail!). Other times I can't seem to stop reading! I'm looking forward to the next of the Harry Potter series. I recently reread the first four books. I'd originally picked them up for my youngest son, Garrett, but had to settle reading the 4th one in spurts when he wasn't instead of at my own pace. He's since decided he's no longer into the series, but Geoff's still interested in them, and he couldn't wait for Harry Potter 3 to hit the screen! Now we're looking forward to the next book... looks like they're putting out a book or movie every other year - which we like!
