Who we are / What we do...

Outings
I'm from Massachusetts. My High School song went "We are the Panthers; The mighty, mighty Panthers; Wherever we go, people want to know; Who we are, so we tell 'em! (repeat)". I just thought I'd throw that part in - here's a section that tells more about who WE are and what we do!

We've memberships at the local museum and not-so-local zoo, which in turn gets us into the reciprocal locations. We try to take advantage of what the memberships have to offer on at least a quarterly basis. That, mall trips (I've got teenagers, remember?!), and movies (ok, and I love a parade, too!) are our main source of outings.

Alfred P. Sloan Museum ~ sloanmuseum.com/index.html (skips flash intro)
1221 E. Kearsley Street
Flint, MI 48503
The Sloan is a historical museum of Flint, MI-related facts. Included are many antique automobiles and coaches, and a walk thru time in the past century of Flint.
It has reciprocal agreements with lots of other museums, included but not limited to The Detroit Science Center, Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum, Lansing's Impressions V, lots more... (USED to be affiliated with the Flint Children's Museum, but they aren't any longer. I hadn't been to the Flint Children's Museum since a couple years prior, but it was still a bummer when I heard they quit their affiliation and I'm hoping they reconsider and "join the fold" again.)

... and, just around the corner from the main site of the Sloan Museum is their new Buick Gallery and Research Center/Perry Archives at
303 Walnut Street
Flint, MI 48503

Potter Park Zoo ~ www.cityoflansingmi.com/zoo/
1301 S. Pennsylvania Ave
Lansing, MI 48912-1646
The zoo is open year-round, weather permitting. Located 1/2 mile south off the Pennsylvania Ave exit off I-496 just west off US-127. 'Tho a small zoo, it's easily covered in an afternoon, and is located along the banks of the Grand River (rented canoes an option).
It has reciprocal agreements with lots of other zoos, including but not limited to Detroit, Belle Isle Aquarium and Zoo in Royal Oak, Clinch Park Zoo in Traverse City, Saginaw Children's Zoo, Cleveland (Ohio) Metroparks Zoo, Toledo Ohio, more... in 2001 they added the African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton Ohio (I'd like to check that one out! PB, are you reading this?)

Blockbuster ~ www.blockbuster.com
11349 South Saginaw St
Grand Blanc, MI, 48439
(810) 694-6909
Store Hours: Mon - Sun: 10:00AM - Midnight
This is where Geoff and I (and occasionally his brother Garrett) usually spend our Saturday mornings. We rent 'em and PB returns 'em! Sometimes when I've decided Geoff's already rented a movie 3x and wants it AGAIN, we break down and purchase them... on DVD when available as Geoff loves the extra features!

Michigan Renaissance Festival ~ www.michrenfest.com
Dixie Highway just north of Grange Hall Road
Holly, MI
The festival is held mid-August thru September, annually, with different themes each weekend. We visited the weekend of Sept 16th in 2001 when the theme was "Wonders of the World." Didn't get there at all in 2002 or 2003 but this had been a regular annual outing for us!
