Geoffrey Geoff's our eldest of two kids. 2005 - Can I call this an annual blog?! Geoff and I are still both into movies. We saw Robots this past weekend, and he likes to spend his allowance cash on weekly treks to Blockbuster. We just went there this morning, as a matter of fact. He picked up three Barney DVDs - and, as I noted to a buddy, I didn't even try to stop him... Fav' moves include Harry Potter (now including #3), Elf (he also has the soundtrack), Santa Claus (original or #2), and any of the Goosebumps or Never Ending Story series. He's bookmarked Barney, Elf, Goosebumps, Harry Potter, Pokemon and Young Black Stallion on the web and visits regularly, but still enjoys drawing - both on the PC and with either pen or marker on paper. Music's important - he's filled a rather large wallet-style CD carrying case and he and his brother argue over whose turn it is to listen to music when we're all in the car. And show-'n-tell is still a pretty regular part of our day. Now 2004... lemme see, what's new?! Favorite movies include Harry Potter (mainly #2), Return to Oz, any of the Yu-Gi-Oh series, and the Freaky Friday redo. Pokemon's still important, but CDs are more so. He very much enjoys the extras that are included in lots of DVDsI can't recall the last time Geoff picked up a GameBoy or played any of the Nintendo GameCube or PlayStation 2 (hmmn... when'd we pick them up, 2003?) games, but he still enjoys lots of the PC games, and surfing the Internet - mainly the Pokemon, Digimon and Goosebump sites. He still loves drawing (has updated his marker collection), and we still enjoy a pretty regular show-'n-tell. In 2002, DVDs ruled! Favorite movies expanded to include Atlantis, Bicentennial Man, Joseph: King of Dreams, The Kid, Paulie, Prince of Egypt, The Tenth Kingdom, and Shrek (tho' in no particular order). Pokemon was still an important part of Geoff's life - and usually an item he picked up at his school store or when spending allowance money. As I updated this, Geoff was in his room listening to his boom box. He likes music and had picked up some of the song tracks from the above movies that he listened to most often. When I started this web in 2001, Geoff liked Nintendo 64, GameBoy, and PlayStation games. OK, his mom enjoys them too (mostly the GameBoy)! He's probably got an equal amount of games for all of the above, but no definite favorite, at least that he'd 'fess up to at the moment. His favorite pastime was probably drawing free form with markers. In fact, Geoff can get up in the morning and likes to draw before going to school! I have to sit down for daily show-'n-tell sessions when I get home from work. Hopefully I'll be able to save some of his artwork for inclusion on this site. I've got his artwork on my walls at work, and people constantly stop by and comment on how good he is at art! Geoff also likes watching videos. That's a pastime he shares with his mom. We usually have weekend outings to the local video stores. His all-time favorite video (lately) seems to be Babes in Toyland, a remake of the original Annette show, produced in 1986 with Drew Barrymore (but we've got both versions!). That and the CATS musical are played most frequently, closely followed by The Little Vampire... and then there's the Disney videos (we should've bought stock in Disney). Geoff's got Down Syndrome, a congenital disorder that results in moderate mental retardation. He goes to a Special Ed school where he has a class of about a dozen classmates, and has assistance with speech therapy. He's twice gone to the Special Olympics Summer Games in Michigan where he participated in bowling. Locally, he's been in the track and field and snowshoe competitions, and practically has his whole door covered in ribbons he's won! We like going to the events (his grandparents sometimes make the trek to see him compete), and his dad has a "We're proud of our Special Olympian" sticker on the back window of his van (may be why we haven't buried the van in the backyard yet, eh, PB?!). |
