Transcendentalism
is a literary and philosphical movement based on the search for reality
through intuition as opposed to empirical and scientific knowledge.
This movement is associated with the works of Ralph Waldo Emerson,
Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman.
A example of a romantic transcendentalist's work is Walt Whitman's
"Leaves of Grass." The key themes in this work include sexuality,
nature, and spirituality. He uses poetry to bring forth his ideas
on these issues. He regards sexuality, spirituality, and nature as
intrinsic goods.
