This
section of the class discusses Native American Culture and how it
was displayed throughout different pieces of literature. A good portion
of the stories deal with nature and how it important it is to the
Native American lives. Other stories deal with how the world was created.
Native Americans also discussed the assimilation of themselves into
white American culture.
One example
of a story read, deals with assimilation. Luther Standing Bear is
a Native American boy taken out of his home and placed into a substandard
white American culture. He is forced to fully become a part of this culture. This story is an autobiography and speaks
of how he dealt with assimilation and what occured during it.
