Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering ABET assessment website. In today's world and in the future, engineering education programs must not only teach the fundamentals of engineering theory, experimentation and practice, but must be RELEVANT, ATTRACTIVE and CONNECTED. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an ‘application-based’ curricula that includes the systemic integration of design and technology and compliments a strong foundation of hands-on experimental and computational laboratory experiences. This engineering education philosophy mandates an improved educational pedagogy, revised undergraduate and graduate curriculum content, improved technological infrastructure, and a process of continuous assessment and continuous improvement.
As such, assessment is the key for the continuous improvement of mechanical engineering business operations and especially the curriculum. Faculty members are intimately involved in the assessment process. They are in charge of the annual assessment process and are responsible for revising the curriculum, objectives, outcomes, and assessment tools. The goal is to develop and implement a plan that encompasses continuous improvement, satisfies the requirements or EC2000, and generates improvement in the operations and outcomes of the program. Any ideas for improvements, comments, or questions can be addressed to Dr. Karim Nasr, ‘knasr@kettering.edu’ or myself at ‘jberry@kettering.edu ’
