IEN-514 Information Technology

Course Description: This course is designed to help students learn enough about the technology to play an active role in the design, use and management of information technology. The major role of information technology is to support all organizational personnel regardless of their hierarchy. The focus is not only learning the concepts of information technology, but rather applying those concepts to enhance business process.

Prerequisites: Senior standing in Industrial Engineering or Admission to graduate program.

Course Learning Objectives:

Upon completion this course, the students will:

  • Name and describe the components of an information system

  • Identify infrastructure and architecture requirements.

  • Identify the various hardware and software requirements.

  • Apply database management principles to manage information.

  • Identify the key communication component required for an effective information technology system.

  • Identify ethical, legal and social issues associated with information technology.

Class Schedule: 240 minutes lectures per week
