GRADING POLICIES

The grades for the course will be split among the following testing mechanisms.

Test I ----------- 20%
Test II ----------- 20%
Programming Assignments--- 30%
Final------------ 30%

Curve: There will no curve for the course grades on the basis of average. The averages will not be computed or provided.

Programming Assignments: Programming assignments are handled completely in the laboratory section of the course. You will recieve a separate handout about the lab policies and programming assignments.

Tests:  There will be two tests.  Each test will cover the material taught upto that point. The final will be during week twelve.  The final will be comprehensive.

Grading :  There will be a MINIMUM of one week between the time a material is submitted and the time the grades are returned back to you. Key will be provided for all tests. Full credit will be given to correct solutions that meet all of the requirements. Partial solutions will recieve partial credit. The amount of partial credit is upto the discretion of the grader. If you desire an exam or assignement to be regraded you should submit the assignment or exam along with a note requesting regrading with your signature on it. When an exam or assignment is submitted for regrading, the entire exam or assignment is regraded. Regrading is additional burden on the grader. Therefore, regraded material will be returned at the graders' convenience.  You are required to keep the returned graded material in a safe place until the end of the term.

ABSENCES

You are required to attend all the classes so that you perform well in the course. If you miss a class it is your own responsibility to obtain lecture notes from your class mates. I will not go over the material on individual basis nor provide lecture notes.

If you cannot take a test for medical reasons please call me before hand, if possible. If you are unable to call before hand, you should talk to me about rescheduling the test as early as possible and alternate arrangements will be made.  You may reschedule the tests only with proper documents from a medical professional.

DISCIPLINARY AND ETHICAL POLICIES

To be fair, and to achieve high acedemic standards I require my students to adhere to the following rules. Failure to do so will result in heavy penalty.

1. Submission of work not entirely your own, will receive an automatic zero, with a warning, for the first offense. An automatic failing grade will be assigned for the course for any subsequent offense. This is applicable to all parties involved in the cooperative effort. Documentation related to cheating in assignments or tests will be forwarded to the Dean of Academic Affairs and will be added to the student's file.
2. You are expected to keep track of your grade at all times. If you see yourself failing, you should take necessary measures to improve your grade. Just before or just after the final exam I will entertain no discussion of improvement in your grade. If you need to obtain a certain grade for whatever reason ( for example being on probation) it is your responsibility to earn that grade.
3. You are expected to behave in a way that is responsible and fosters a learning environment for your classmates. This means that you will come to classroom and lab session on time, you will not distract the lectures by talking among yourselves and you will not be walking in and out of the class in the middle of the lectures. If any of these incidents occur, you will not be allowed to continue attending the classes.
