With about 120 lighthouses, Michigan has more maritime lights than any other state in the country. Maine ranks second with fewer than 70. So far my family and I have seen 42 of Michigan's lighthouses plus a couple others outside of Michigan. This gallery contains photos of some of them.

Michigan's 3,288 mile shoreline — second in length only to Alaska's — borders 4 of the 5 Great Lakes and is longer than the entire Atlantic seaboard of the United States. Therefore, Michigan's shores average about one lighthouse every 30 miles.
