About Alpha Phi

Alpha Phi International

"The objects of our Fraternity are the promotion of growth in character, unity of feeling, sisterly affection and social communion among our members. In all that we do, we try to obey God's principles of justice and right. We have banded ourselves together to improve our minds and hearts, and we seek to aid each other through a constant WATCHCARE always given in love. We believe ourselves to be sincere searchers for truth. We seek the highest ideal of womanhood, and we try to gain this ideal by cultivating not only the power and passion for seeking intellectual development but, also, the spirit of love and charity. And we who are thus united are under a solemn pledge to lend a helping hand to one another"

CONSTITUTION of Alpha Phi International Fraternity, Incorporated, Article II.

Our Chapter—Iota Epsilon

Our chapter currently has 29 active members!

On campus, we have are very involved. We have girls that are active in Student Senate, The Society of Women Engineers, Kettering Leaders Fellows, Kettering Awareness Council, Up 'Til Dawn, Institute of Industrial Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Greek Council, Panhellenic Council, American Chemical Society, REALservice, Compass Crew, etc.  In addition to these prestigious groups, Alpha Phis are participants in many clubs such as the Soccer Club, Trap & Skeet Club, Mud Boggers, and Outdoors Club.

Our sisters are also very intelligent and involved academically. Alpha Phi had the highest WGA for the Winter '04 term out of all Greek life on campus. We have sisters in Phi Eta Sigma (freshman honor society), Kappa Mu Epsilon (mathematics' honor society) the Robotics Society, Pi Tau Sigma (mechanical engineering society), Order of Omega (Greek honor society), and Rho Lambda (Panhellenic honor society), just to name a few.

Our Fraternity also participates in intramural sports each term on campus including volleyball, flag football, basketball, and innertube water polo.

Alpha Phi Facts

* Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 by 10 of the first 20 women to enter Syracuse University.

* Alpha Phi is called a "fraternity" because it was founded before the word "sorority" was coined.

* Alpha Phi is pronounced Alpha "fee" (long "e") not "fie," because "Alpha" is a vowel and "Phi" is pronounced "fee" when it follows a vowel.

* Alpha Phi is a true "international" sorority. It has maintained the longest continuous presence in Canada of any sorority. The Xi chapter was established at the University of Toronto in 1906.

*Alpha Phi was the first women's fraternity to use Greek letters as its emblem.

*Alpha Phi is the third largest women's sorority with currently 145 chapters/colonies in the US and Canada.
