Karate Club Black Belt Member Biographies.
Current and past members who've been promoted to Black Belt rank.

Master Alan Bruce: 4th Dan- Master Bruce was Head Instructor of Paladin Martial Arts (as the club was then known) from Jan 1981 through Dec 2005. He is 'retired' from active instruction of martial arts after 25 years and plans on enjoying his free time and renewing his own practice of Tang Soo Do in private.

Joellen Bruce: 2nd Dan- Joellen was an Instructor of Paladin Martial Arts from Fall 1990 through Dec 1999.

Theros, Adam: 1st Dan- Mr. Adam Theros started practice with the Karate club as a freshman in 1995 and was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt in 1999. Adam is married to another former karate club student and they both live in the Chicago area.

Karlsson, Rolf: 2nd Dan- Mr. Karlsson graduated Summa Cum Laude from GMI/KU in 1996 and has stayed with General Motors, where he is a senior engineer doing thermal integration. He received his 1st degree black belt in 1995 while still a GMI student, and his 2nd degree black belt in 1998 after graduating. He attended MIT to earn his master of science in 1999/2000 on a GM Fellowship, and briefly taught Tang Soo Do while on campus at MIT. Some of his related extra-curricular activities include lifting weights, throwing knives, and general health and fitness. Mr. Karlsson is married, has 4 dogs, and lives in Fenton.

Brewer, John: 1st Dan- Mr. John R. Brewer IV is a 1st Dan (degree) Black Belt and alumnus member of the Kettering University Karate Club. He started his martial arts career in January of 1991 by joining the Kettering University Karate Club, then called the GMI Karate Club, as a white belt and progressed through the ranks to earn his 1st Dan in 1994. John now resides in Dearborn, Michigan and attends class as time allows and hopes to return to full time martial arts study and earn higher rank.

McAuliffe, Dave: 1st Dan- Mr. Dave McAuliffe was promoted to 1st Degree Black belt in 1993. He is married and still lives in the Flint Area and attend class as his busy work life permits.

Bray, Joe: 1st Dan- Mr. Joe Bray started practice with the Karate Club in 1990 and was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt while still studying at GMI in 1993. He currently lives in Toronto and still manages to attend class on occassion.

Andrzejewski, Ron: 2nd Dan- Mr. Ronald A. Andrzejewski began studying martial arts in 1989 and quickly gained skill with Tang Soo Do techniques, especially jumping kicks. Ron was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt in 1991. He contracted cancer in 1992 and spent several years in and out of various hospitals dealing with his illness and continuing to support Tang Soo Do and the karate club until his death in November of 2000. To honor his spirit he was posthumously promoted to 2nd Dan by the World Tang Soo Do Association shortly after his death. A gifted artist and musician he inspired many in his life. Still with us in spirit!

Muench, Eric: 3rd Dan- Mr. Eric Muench started with the karate club in 1989 as a freshman and tested for 1st Degree Black Belt in 1991. He also tested for his 2nd Degree before graduating from GMI. A talented student and former Eagle Scout Mr. Muench lives in the Flint area. He is married and has two cats.

Jaje, Jeff: 1st Dan- Mr. Jeff Jaje started practice with the GMI Karate Club as a freshman student and was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt in 1988. After graduation from GMI (or Kettering or whatever), Jeff worked for several mechanical software manufacturers involved with CAD and CAM. Currently, Jeff works in Technical Marketing for a well known CAM company in Southfield. Jeff is married (in 1991) to a wonderful woman, Vel, who is much too good for him. They have two fantastic children, Justin (1994) and Katherine (1997), whom he doesn't deserve. In 1999 Jeff moved from his first home in Warren to new construction in Macomb Township. Where he finally had enough garage space to have a "project car", a modified 1988 Mazda RX7 TurboII, and enough kitchen counter space to be a bit creative. Jeff's current hobbies include coaching little kids soccor, his money pit RX7, eating (and the associated cooking), amateur astronomy and writing. He threatens to write a book some day, but fears no one would buy it. When his children are old enough, Jeff hopes to return to the martial arts and to hopefully get in form to be able to kick higher than someone's waist.

Mars, Mike: 1st Dan- Mr. Mike Mars started study of Tang Soo Do as a freshman at GMI and rose very quickly through the ranks thanks to exceptional skill to become 1st Degree Black Belt in 1988.

Messina, Richard: 1st Dan- Mr. Richard Messina was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt in 1986. He was very active in Student Activities Council and served as Karate Club President for many terms.

Kajder, Carl: 1st Dan- Mr. Carl Kajder was promoted to 1st Degree Black belt in 1983.
