About Us
The Kettering University Firebirds Car Club is primarily a student club, but alumni and faculty participation are encouraged. The club is composed of members who are interested in Automobiles and Automobile events.
Some of the Firebirds events include but are not limited to Autocrosses, Rallies, Car Shows, Kart Racing, and Meetings. Our meetings are usually held weekly or bi-weekly in a room at school with food provided.
While Racing is a huge interest of the club, the Firebirds promote only legal and safe racing.
An Autocross is one form of racing in which cars, usually street legal with light modifications, compete for the fastest times around a challenging course usually setup in a parking lot. The autocross course is usually marked with cones and has a beginning and end gate for the timing equipment.
Rallies are on road events that usually involve a different form of racing than most people usually think of. Rallies are run on a set course. In each car there is a driver and a navigator. The navigator is given road directions through the course and it is his responsibility to convey the directions to the driver. All speeds during a rally should be equal to or less than the posted speed limits. The rally is scored based on a set time, which comes from following the course and set speed limits.
The Firebirds hold an annual car show at Kettering University as well as attend shows involving new unique or performance cars.
